continuation of government spying

Historically, during times of war, the power of government usually increases which also has a tendency to reduce the people's rights. We are currently at war and the threat is not only foreign, but domestic as well. To win this war, we cannot ignore the the treats inside our own country, we have to focus on both threats. The only way we have of fighting the domestic threat is to spy on people of interest and hopefully uncover a potential attack before it is carried out.
I believe that the government spying on people of interest that are citizens can be justified, I just think that there should be some limitations, some restrictions to protest the people that are not labeled as people of interest. This much power can easily be abused and because of this, there needs to be some checks on them.
I do not know if this is possible because this means that more people will need to be involved and more information can be potentially leaked and that could be a danger for an operation that is being carried out. Even after this, I still believe that that government spying is necessary to protect the public.

  1. Actually we aren't officially at war because we are fighting against a group of people who have no affiliation with one another other than they are terrorists. Its because of this that the government can rationalize spying on it's own citizens because "anybody could be a terrorist". This mentality is unacceptable. The people give the government it's power and in return should not be spied on. If the government knows of a terrorist within US borders and has enough evidence to convict him/her then they may spy on them. Is our safety provided at the cost of our freedom?
