I think that the original idea of eminent domain was ok, I mean just taking land from people to put a school or a hospital there so the rest of the public can use it. However, even then I think that is a not one of the best powers delegated to the government but neccessary. Everyone else will probably be happy that a new school or a new hospital will be built and if the people loosing their home try to fight it, they won't have a chance. Everyone wants the new hospital or the new school, but none of them would willingly give up their house for the rest of the community.
What I really am against is what they have changed this power into. They take the part "for public use" and really take advantage of that. When the framers were writing the constitution, I think they meant that the land itself being taken would be for public use. Instead, they are taking the land, giving it to private owners that will pay more taxes, then saying that the tax money will be for the public's use. This means that all people not paying as much taxes that the government wants is at risk of having their home taken away from them. This is an example of how the government has expanded it's power.
